A final icon review needs both design and platform checks.

First decide whether the visual idea is clear and earns a strong first impression. Then check small-size legibility, system appearances, supplied assets and avoidable review risk. Apple’s current guidance is the source of truth for platform requirements.

1. Can someone describe the core visual idea in one short phrase?
2. Does the icon remain recognisable at small sizes, not just in a large design canvas?
3. Is the primary subject centered with enough breathing room for system masking and rounded corners?
4. Have you removed decorative detail that turns into noise at small size?
5. Is text essential? If not, remove it before it becomes unreadable or difficult to localize.
6. Does the icon avoid copying an identifiable competitor, Apple hardware, or another developer’s icon, brand or product name without permission?
7. Does it avoid using a product screenshot or generic UI replica as the icon?
8. Is the main idea consistent with the actual app experience and product-page message?
9. Have you checked default, dark, clear and tinted appearances where relevant to your app and platform?
10. Are custom dark and tinted variations recognisably the same icon rather than unrelated images?
11. Are the supplied asset format and size appropriate for the platform? Apple lists a 1024 × 1024 square layout for iOS, iPadOS and macOS.
12. Have you compared the final two viable directions before locking the submitted asset?
